A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft IIS 4.0 (Web Server) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component ISAPI ASP Handler. The manipulation of the argument LANGUAGE with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. Buffer overflow in IIS ISAPI .ASP parsing mechanism allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a long string to the "LANGUAGE" argument in a script tag.
The weakness was presented 01/09/2001 by Marc Maiffret with eEye as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2000-1147. The exploitation appears to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
