Cisco Catalyst 6000, 5000, or 4000 switches allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service by connecting to the SSH service with a non-SSH client, which generates a protocol mismatch error.
The bug was discovered 12/13/2000. The weakness was shared 02/12/2001 by FIRST with Cisco as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0080. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
