A vulnerability was found in Kerberos on FreeBSD/NetBSD (affected version unknown). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function kdc_reply_cipher in the library libkrb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in kdc_reply_cipher of libkrb (Kerberos 4 authentication library) in NetBSD 1.5 and FreeBSD 4.2 and earlier, as used in Kerberised applications such as telnetd and login, allows local users to gain root privileges.
The bug was discovered 12/08/2000. The weakness was presented 02/12/2001 by Jouko Pynnonen (FIRST) as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ftp.NetBSD.ORG.
