A vulnerability was found in OpenSSL up to 1.0.2w/1.1.1h (Network Encryption Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function GENERAL_NAME_cmp of the component x509 Certificate Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability.
The weakness was published 12/08/2020 as 20201208.txt as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at openssl.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor.
