A vulnerability was found in Opera Web Browser 8.01 (Web Browser). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component Image Drag / Drop Handler. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Opera 8.01 allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks or modify which files are uploaded by tricking a user into dragging an image that is a "javascript:" URI.
The weakness was presented 07/28/2005 by Jakob Balle with Secunia Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-2406 since 07/28/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
