A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0.1/5.5 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component SFU Telnet Client. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Internet Explorer 5.5 and earlier executes Telnet sessions using command line arguments that are specified by the web site, which could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands if the IE client is using the Telnet client provided in Services for Unix (SFU) 2.0, which creates session transcripts.

The bug was discovered 11/01/2000. The weakness was presented 03/06/2001 with Microsoft as MS01-015 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0150. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

After 1 weeks, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
