Details
A vulnerability was found in FreeBSD 4.2 (Operating System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component UFS/EXT2FS File System. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Race condition in the UFS and EXT2FS file systems in FreeBSD 4.2 and earlier, and possibly other operating systems, makes deleted data available to user processes before it is zeroed out, which allows a local user to access otherwise restricted information.
The bug was discovered 12/22/2000. The weakness was published 03/22/2001 as not defined advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com.
