Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in BRS Webweaver up to 0.62 Beta. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in BRS WebWeaver HTTP server allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) attack in the (1) syshelp, (2) sysimages, or (3) scripts directories.
The weakness was presented 06/27/2001 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-0453. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
