A vulnerability has been found in Texas Imperial Software WFTPD up to 3.0 0r5 (File Transfer Software) and classified as critical. WFTPD 3.00 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files by uploading a (link) file that ends in a ".lnk." extension, which bypasses WFTPD s check for a ".lnk" extension.
The weakness was published 07/01/2001 by ByteRage (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2001-1386. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
