A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 6 (Web Browser). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component WebDAV URL Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Unknown vulnerability in Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 allows remote attackers to obtain information and possibly execute code when browsing from a web site to a web folder view using WebDAV, aka "Web Folder Behaviors Cross-Domain Vulnerability".
The weakness was shared 08/09/2005 with Microsoft as MS05-038 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-1989 since 06/17/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
