Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Teamware Office 5.0/5.1/5.2/5.3/5.4. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component LDAP. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Buffer overflows in Teamware Office Enterprise Directory allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code, as demonstrated by the PROTOS LDAPv3 test suite.
The weakness was disclosed 07/16/2001 with CERT as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-1316. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Addressing this vulnerability is possible by firewalling .
