Microsoft IIS 5.1 and 6 allows remote attackers to spoof the SERVER_NAME variable to bypass security checks and conduct various attacks via a GET request with an http://localhost URI, which makes it appear as if the request is coming from localhost.
The bug was discovered 01/28/2005. The weakness was shared 08/17/2005 by Inge Henriksen (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ingehenriksen.blogspot.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-2678 since 08/23/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
