Microsoft Windows 2000 telnet service creates named pipes with predictable names and does not properly verify them, which allows local users to execute arbitrary commands by creating a named pipe with the predictable name and associating a malicious program with it, the second of two variants of this vulnerability.

The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was presented 07/21/2001 with Microsoft as MS01-031 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2001-0350. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Required for exploitation is a authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
