A vulnerability was found in Sun Solaris 7.0/8.0 (Operating System). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component kcms_configure. kcms_configure as included with Solaris 7 and 8 allows a local attacker to gain additional privileges via a buffer overflow in a command line argument.
The bug was discovered 04/09/2001. The weakness was presented 08/02/2001 by Riley Hassell with eEye (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-0594. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
