A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Netscape Communicator 4.77 (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component GIF Comment Handler. Netscape Communicator before 4.77 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Javascript via a GIF image whose comment contains the Javascript.
The bug was discovered 04/09/2001. The weakness was published 04/09/2001 by Florian Wesch as RHSA-2001:046 (Website). The advisory is available at distro.conectiva.com.br. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0596. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
