LinkSys EtherFast BEFSR41 Cable/DSL routers running firmware before 1.39.3 Beta allows a remote attacker to view administration and user passwords by connecting to the router and viewing the HTML source for (1) index.htm and (2) Password.htm.
The bug was discovered 07/23/2001. The weakness was released 08/02/2001 by Hypoclear (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-1117. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
