A vulnerability has been found in OpenBSD OpenSSH 2.9 (Connectivity Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component X Forwarding Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. OpenSSH version 2.9 and earlier, with X forwarding enabled, allows a local attacker to delete any file named cookies via a symlink attack.
The weakness was presented 06/04/2001 by zen-parse as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0529.
