A vulnerability was found in Drummond Miles A1Stats 1.0/1.6. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file a1disp2.cgi/a1disp3.cgi/a1disp4.cgi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Drummond Miles A1Stats prior to 1.6 allows a remote attacker to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) attack in (1) a1disp2.cgi, (2) a1disp3.cgi, or (3) a1disp4.cgi.
The weakness was published 08/14/2001 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0561. The exploitation appears to be easy.
