A vulnerability was found in Microsoft IIS 5.0 (Web Server). It has been declared as critical. Buffer overflow in ssinc.dll in IIS 5.0 and 4.0 allows local users to gain system privileges via a Server-Side Includes (SSI) directive for a long filename, which triggers the overflow when the directory name is added, aka the "SSI privilege elevation" vulnerability.
The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was presented 09/20/2001 by NSFOCUS with NSFOCUS Security Team as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0506. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally.
