A vulnerability classified as critical was found in HP-UX, Sun Solaris and Caldera OpenServer (Operating System) (version unknown). This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file rpc.yppasswdd. The manipulation of the argument Username with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in rpc.yppasswdd (yppasswd server) in Solaris 2.6, 7 and 8 allows remote attackers to gain root access via a long username.
The weakness was disclosed 10/18/2001 by FIRST as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0779.
