A vulnerability has been found in Celtech Software ExpressFS 2.6 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component FTP Server. The manipulation of the argument USER with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in Celtech ExpressFS FTP server 2.x allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, and possibly execute arbitrary commands, via a long USER command.
The weakness was released 11/28/2001 by Martin (Website). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-1999-1514. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
