A vulnerability was found in Oracle Database Server 8.1.6 (Database Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component dbsnmp. The manipulation of the argument ORACLE_HOME as part of a Environment Variable leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. dbsnmp in Oracle 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 uses the ORACLE_HOME environment variable to find and execute the dbsnmp program, which allows local users to execute arbitrary programs by pointing the ORACLE_HOME to an alternate directory that contains a malicious version of dbsnmp.
The weakness was presented 11/29/2001 (Website). The advisory is available at otn.oracle.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0942. The exploitation appears to be easy.
