A vulnerability has been found in Persits AspUpload 2.1 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file UploadScript11.asp/DirectoryListing.asp. The manipulation of the argument Filename with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in AspUpload 2.1, in certain configurations, allows remote attackers to upload and read arbitrary files, and list arbitrary directories, via a .. (dot dot) in the Filename parameter in (1) UploadScript11.asp or (2) DirectoryListing.asp.
The weakness was shared 11/30/2001 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0938. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
