A vulnerability was found in Entrust GetAccess All Versions. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file elpwin.gas.bat/AboutBox.gas.bat. The manipulation of the argument locale with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Entrust GetAccess allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the locale parameter to (1) helpwin.gas.bat or (2) AboutBox.gas.bat.
The weakness was released 12/06/2001 by rudi carell as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-0853. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
