Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in SELinux 3.2. This vulnerability affects the function ebitmap_match_any of the component CIL Compiler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The CIL compiler in SELinux 3.2 has a heap-based buffer over-read in ebitmap_match_any (called indirectly from cil_check_neverallow). This occurs because there is sometimes a lack of checks for invalid statements in an optional block.
The weakness was published 07/01/2021. The advisory is available at bugs.chromium.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2021-36087. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
