A vulnerability was found in Microsoft ISA Server 2000 (Firewall Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component UDP Packet Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
** DISPUTED * Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a flood of fragmented UDP packets. NOTE: the vendor disputes this issue, saying that it requires high bandwidth to exploit, and the server does not experience any instability. Therefore this "laws of physics" issue might not be included in CVE.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2001 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at cert.uni-stuttgart.de. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-1533 since 07/14/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.
