Macromedia JRun 3.0 and 3.1 appends the jsessionid to URL requests (a.k.a. rewriting) when client browsers have cookies enabled, which allows remote attackers to obtain session IDs and hijack sessions via HTTP referrer fields or sniffing.

The bug was discovered 12/06/2001. The weakness was shared 12/31/2001 with Macromedia (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-1545 since 07/14/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
