A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm up to 2.6 (Firewall Software). This issue affects an unknown part of the component TCP Packet Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:
ZoneAlarm 2.1 through 2.6 and ZoneAlarm Pro 2.4 and 2.6 allows local users to bypass filtering via non-standard TCP packets created with non-Windows protocol adapters.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2001 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-1548 since 07/14/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
