A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Squid Proxy up to 2.4.STABLE3 (Firewall Software). This affects an unknown code block of the component FTP URI Handler. Squid 2.4 STABLE3 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (core dump) and possibly execute arbitrary code with an ftp:// URL with a larger number of special characters, which exceed the buffer when Squid URL-escapes the characters.
The bug was discovered 02/21/2002. The weakness was disclosed 02/21/2002 by Jouko Pynnonen with Squid (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2002-0068. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
