Details
A vulnerability was found in Logwatch 2.5. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Temp File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. This could allow an attacker to cause the product to operate on unauthorized files. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
LogWatch before 2.5 allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a symlink attack on the logwatch temporary directory.
