A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in SGI IRIX (Operating System). This vulnerability affects an unknown function. The manipulation of the argument HOSTALIASES as part of a Environment Variable leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. Vulnerability in SGI IRIX 6.5.11 through 6.5.15f allows local users to cause privileged applications to dump core via the HOSTALIASES environment variable, which might allow the users to gain privileges.
The issue has been introduced in 02/01/2001. The weakness was released 03/28/2002 by FIRST (Website). The advisory is available at patches.sgi.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-0040.
