The login for Hosting Controller 1.1 through 1.4.1 returns different error messages when a valid or invalid user is provided, which allows remote attackers to determine the existence of valid usernames and makes it easier to conduct a brute force attack.

The bug was discovered 01/26/2002. The weakness was presented 05/16/2002 by Ahmet Sabri Alper as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-0212. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
