A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in EType EServ 2.97. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component PASV Handler. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Etype Eserv 2.97 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (resource exhaustion) via a large number of PASV commands that consume ports 1024 through 5000, which prevents the server from accepting valid PASV.
The weakness was disclosed 05/16/2002 by Arne Vidstrom (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at iss.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-0221. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 27128 (Etype EServ Passive Mode Denial of Service Vulnerability).
