This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file php.exe of the component CGI Module. The manipulation with the input value /123 leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Path). PHP for Windows, when installed on Apache 2.0.28 beta as a standalone CGI module, allows remote attackers to obtain the physical path of the php.exe via a request with malformed arguments such as /123, which leaks the pathname in the error message.
The weakness was presented 05/29/2002 by Paul (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0249. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
