Buffer overflow in Netscape 6 and Mozilla 1.0 RC1 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long channel name in an IRC URI.
The bug was discovered 04/30/2002. The weakness was disclosed 06/18/2002 by Thor Larholm (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-0593. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
