The weakness was presented 10/17/2005 by posidron (Website). The advisory is shared for download at whitedust.net. The attack can be initiated remotely. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
A public exploit has been developed by posidron and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at mozilla.org. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be establishing an alternative product.
