A vulnerability was found in Hosting Controller up to 1.4.1 (Hosting Control Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file file_editor.asp/folderactions.asp/editoractions.asp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Hosting Controller 1.4.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to read and modify arbitrary files and directories via a .. (dot dot) in arguments to (1) file_editor.asp, (2) folderactions.asp, or (3) editoractions.asp.
The bug was discovered 03/18/2002. The weakness was published 08/12/2002 by Phuong Nguyen as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-0464. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
