A vulnerability was found in PHPNetToolpack 0.1 and classified as very critical. This issue affects an unknown code block. The manipulation of the argument a_query with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. PHPNetToolpack 0.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via shell metacharacters in the a_query variable.
The weakness was disclosed 08/12/2002 by ppp-design as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0471. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
