A vulnerability was found in Microsoft IIS 6.0 (Web Server). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component Admin Interface. The manipulation of the argument ReturnURL with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The issue has been introduced in 04/24/2003. The weakness was disclosed 07/23/2003 by Hugo Vázquez Caramés and Toni Cortés Martínez with Infohacking, Barcelona, Spanien as not defined posting (Bugtraq).
