Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in HP HP-UX 10.20/11.00/11.04/11.11/11.22 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown function of the file lpc/lpd/lpq/lpr/lprm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple buffer overflows in HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1a, 5.1, 5.0a, 4.0g, and 4.0f allow local users to gain privileges via (1) lpc, (2) lpd, (3) lpq, (4) lpr, or (5) lprm.
The weakness was disclosed 08/30/2002 with SNOSoft as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-1606 since 03/25/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally.
