CGIScript.net csPassword.cgi stores usernames and unencrypted passwords in the password.cgi.tmp temporary file while modifying data, which could allow local users (and possibly remote attackers) to gain privileges by stealing the file before it has been processed.

The weakness was disclosed 10/04/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared at online.securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0920. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
