This issue affects some unknown processing of the file csPassword.cgi of the component Temp File Handler. CGIScript.net csPassword.cgi stores usernames and unencrypted passwords in the password.cgi.tmp temporary file while modifying data, which could allow local users (and possibly remote attackers) to gain privileges by stealing the file before it has been processed.
The weakness was disclosed 10/04/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared at online.securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0920. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 1788.
