A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in RealNetworks RealJukebox 2 1.0.2.340/2 1.0.2.340. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file skin.ini of the component RJS Skin File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. RealJukebox 2 1.0.2.340 and 1.0.2.379, and RealOne Player Gold 6.0.10.505, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary script in the Local computer zone by inserting the script into the skin.ini file of an RJS archive, then referencing skin.ini from a web page after it has been extracted, which is parsed as HTML by Internet Explorer or other Microsoft-based web readers.
The weakness was shared 10/04/2002 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
