A vulnerability was found in Macromedia Sitespring 1.2.0 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file 500error.jsp. The manipulation of the argument et with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting vulnerability in the default HTTP 500 error script (500error.jsp) for Macromedia Sitespring 1.2.0 (277.1) allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary web script via a link to 500error.jsp with the script in 1the et parameter.
The weakness was released 10/04/2002 by Peter Gründl (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1027. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:500error.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
