The Internet Key Exchange version 1 (IKEv1) implementation in Juniper JUNOS and JUNOSe software for M, T, and J-series routers before release 6.4, and E-series routers before 7-1-0, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted IKE packets, as demonstrated by the PROTOS ISAKMP Test Suite for IKEv1. NOTE: due to the lack of details in the advisory, it is unclear which of CVE-2005-3666, CVE-2005-3667, and/or CVE-2005-3668 this issue applies to.

The bug was discovered . The weakness was disclosed 11/14/2005 with Oulu University Secure Programming Group (OUSPG) (Website). The advisory is shared at ficora.fi. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-3733 since 11/21/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 13101 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at juniper.net.
