IIS 5.0 and 5.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via malformed WebDAV requests that cause a large amount of memory to be assigned.
The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was released 11/12/2002 by Mark Litchfield with Generation Security Software Ltd. as MS02-062 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1182. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely.
