A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in iPlanet Web Server up to 4.x SP11 (Web Server). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Admin Server. The manipulation of the argument dir with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. importInfo in the Admin Server for iPlanet WebServer 4.x, up to SP11, allows the web administrator to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the dir parameter, and possibly allows remote attackers to exploit this vulnerability via a separate XSS issue (CVE-2002-1315).
