The libthread library (libthread.so.1) for Solaris 2.5.1 through 8 allows local users to cause a denial of service (hang) of an application that uses libthread by causing the application to wait for a certain mutex.
The bug was discovered 09/04/2002. The weakness was presented 12/04/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared at sunsolve.sun.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1587 since 02/08/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally.
