Two vulnerabilities in Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) up to and including build 5.0.3805, as used in Internet Explorer and other applications, allow remote attackers to read files via a Java applet with a spoofed location in the CODEBASE parameter in the APPLET tag, possibly due to a parsing error.
The weakness was presented 12/23/2002 with Microsoft as MS02-069 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2002-1258. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
