A vulnerability was found in Sun Cobalt Raq 4 (the affected version is unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the file overflow.cgi of the component POST Request Handler. overflow.cgi CGI script in Sun Cobalt RaQ 4 with the SHP (Security Hardening Patch) installed allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a POST request with shell metacharacters in the email parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 12/23/2002 by DiGiT with digit-labs.org as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1361. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
