A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Mike Spice My Calendar up to 1.4 (Calendar Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component URL Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Mike Spice My Calendar before 1.5 allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files via .. (dot dot) sequences in a URL.

The bug was discovered 01/16/2002. The weakness was published 12/31/2002 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1626 since 03/26/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
